Eclectic but groovy by nature, with some retro touches in the interludes and extensive production. Tight rhythm, tight horns, and just the right amount of spice.
“The Adventures of Pie Boy” Spice Cabinet’s sophomore release, is a 40-minute sonic roller coaster of original compositions, that shoots through the musical landscape of Bandleader and founder Terry Hsieh’s childhood. Composed en suite almost entirely from the confines of a quarantine hotel room in Taipei (having been forced to abandon the face-to-face interaction of playing live shows) Hsieh, together with co-producer Derrick Sepnio (Khalil Fong, Diana Wang, Melodia Kong), brings an updated and modern sound to the arsenal of The Spice Cabinet, a diverse and lush approach to modern jazz composition. Cinematic, experimental and full of aural surprises, the journey through "The Adventures of Pie Boy" is an ear treat for those looking outside conventional boundaries of music.
